We just bought a safety rail for the bed. Now that Silas is able to roll over and scoot a bit, the rail makes us feel much safer. Mom can put Silas on her side of the bed now without worrying. Silas doesn’t know that the rail makes him safer, but he does love to reach out and grab it and also practice standing with it. Before we know it, he’ll be able to hurdle it!
On Monday, Silas got to hang out with his friend Milo while their moms visited. The boys are just a few weeks apart in age. What fun it will be to watch them grow together!
Silas got this ridiculous horsy outfit from mom's friend Jill, who has two adorable little boys and lots of great boy clothes. As silly as this outfit is, he still looks pretty cute. Mom couldn't resist snapping the last picture of Dad and Si reading in bed this morning. For those of you unfamiliar with the book "Seen Art?," Silas highly recommends it.
Another messy meal: We began stirring vegetables into Silas's rice cereal a few weeks ago. Just a few days ago, we tested out a pear/raspberry combo (his first fruit!). So far, out of everything we've tried, carrots are his favorite.
Silas loves his Ugly Doll (yes, that's really what it's called), Bop n' Beep. We keep a bunch of his stuffed toys on the window ledge above his changing table. After being changed, Silas insists on standing, turning around to face the window, and selecting a toy to grab. If Bop n' Beep is among the selections, it's always Si's first pick! Bop n' Beep makes good chewing, and also doubles as an absorbent drool abater. As you can see, Silas will also drift off to sleep while still clutching to Bop n' Beep. We don't want Silas to have too many toys, but the carefully selected ones he does have, we hope he engages with as much as he does his Ugly Doll!
A message from Silas:
On Labor Day, we took the Ferry over to Seattle to check out the new Olympic Sculpture Park--well worth the trek. They've done a beautiful job restoring a former industrial site into a beautiful park. It truly is a "green park," meaning everything is managed organically, without pesticides, plus they take measures to reduce runoff, they've restored the shoreline, etc. Even the plastic used in the cafe is compostable. We hope the art museum continues to add to its collection of sculpture at this park. Silas hopes that next time we go back there, there will be just as many dogs for him to watch (Seattlites love their dogs!).
Auntie Jennie took these pictures during her visit. They show Mom, Dad, and Si visiting with Gerry and his son Henry, down the road from our house. Anna and Adam had a great time playing with Henry, exploring his yard and all of the "secret" paths and hiding spots.
Two beaches: First 3 pics are from the Dungeness Spit, about an hour 1/2 from our home. There is a lighthouse at the end of the spit, 5 1/2 miles from the coastline. Next time Mom, Dad, and Silas go there, we plan on hiking all the way. The last 4 pics are from Fay Bainbridge Beach, 1 of the 2 state parks on the Island.
