Around the neighborhood: The playground

The elementary school is only a block from our house, and I can tell you, Silas is digging having a playground so nearby.

It has a REALLY big slide!
And a fireman ladder (at least, that's what Silas calls it):
But there's plenty of fun to be had at home too. Today was a perfect day for lawn mowing:
Every day we get a bit more settled, although our den is still pretty much floor to ceiling boxes of books. Silas is adjusting, but the transition hasn't been the easiest. He has been downright difficult lately, but it's hard to say how much of his behavior can be contributed to the changes brought by moving, or just by the fact that he is a typical three year-old. Whatever the cause, I think it's safe to say that we are hoping he moves past this stubborn, whiny, contradictory phase ASAP. Any ideas on how to make him the perfect agreeable, obedient child overnight?

Home on Easter

What better way to celebrate our new house than to have an Easter egg hunt around the yard. Silas was really engaged in the process this year, and as you can see, just thrilled every time he found an egg:

Silas watched his Dad saw the gutters yesterday in order to install these extensions. I couldn't resist hiding an egg in one of them:
We dyed the eggs yesterday afternoon. Silas insisted on wearing his worker hat so that his head wouldn't get too hot while handling the eggs. Not sure what that was about...

The only problem we encountered was that 7 eggs was just not enough and Silas was not ready to call in quits after we'd found them all. Next year, we'll have to step it up!

I will have more pictures of the house as time permits. The Book of the Month will have to be on hiatus for April, but expect a good one in May.

Today we went to the new house to take some measurements. It will probably be the last time we need our agent to open the lock box and let us in. We get the keys on Thursday!

Home Sweet Home

Hi everybody. Welcome to my new home! Come on in and take a look.

Yesterday, we had the house inspected. I helped! This is one of the downstairs bedrooms (2 bedrooms down, two up). We were really relieved that the house is in such good shape.

And a note from the editor: Yes, Silas, that's right. In a few months, barring any unforseen hitches, we will be the proud owners of this beautiful 1916 four-bedroom craftsman. The house is in a town near the island. We are very excited, and a wee bit nervous. Fingers crossed for a smooth transition! Closing in on March 22nd (the day after my birthday!).
