Half birthday

A few weeks ago, we celebrated Silas' half birthday with a few friends. I made him a crown as part of an ever-expanding costume collection.

He entertained friends:

And enjoyed the yummy cake from Monica's Waterfront Bakery:

Showing off his crown the next day:

I can't believe my boy is half way to 5 already!

Keep em' coming

Still trying to finish up Wisconsin posts...
Grandma G and Si:
I call this the Ancestry.com trip, since a lot of time was spent teaching Silas about his family tree:

Silas, pretending he is one of Uncle Steve's dogs:

And...hanging out at Grandma and Merlin's house:

Art project time. "I have clown hands!"
Finally (for this post anyways), Alden and Silas were reunited, and enjoyed a game of fishing.
Moms and babes:
And that's were I'll leave it this time...

Direct from Wisconsin...

My dearest friend, Jessi, came to visit us last week, with a husband, a three year old (just 3 days apart in age from Silas) and a 5 month old! That's what I call adventurous! The camera was aimed mainly at the offspring. The boys played so well together and seemed to have fun sharing a room.
We showed them our town, and took them around the island we used to live on. We couldn't miss a trip to Seattle:
Friends, generation 2:
On the ferry:
Hey it looks like your mama knits you sweaters too!
Yup.
The youngest member of the family. Bright-eyed and photogenic at 5 am.
I can only wish the visit could have been longer. Well, perhaps it would also have been nice if the fairy-godmother could have whisked our families off for about 5 hours so that Jessi and I could knit and chat some more :)

It's 5 am in this picture, we've barely gotten any sleep, I have a stomach virus and Jessi has bronchitis, so we are not exactly glamor girls. But I had to post this. Here we are: friends for almost 20 years:
Can't wait to see you in Wisconsin this spring, Jaaayyyy!

Alden...Friend!

One of the highlights of our trip to Wisconsin was visiting Madison and seeing our friends Jessi and Dave, and their son Alden. Silas and Alden are only a few days apart in age and it was great fun to watch them together.

Alden has a really cool slide and clearly, he is the master of it! Alden looks like he's not budging unless Silas gives him the secret password :)
On Saturday, we took the boys to Madison's fabulous Children's museum. I could have played with this wooden city for quite a while myself.
Nothing beats percussive instruments...
...except possibly learning to lay bricks...

...or dressing up in a hard hat and tool belt.
It was awesome to see our Madison friends, and I wish we could get the boys together more often. I asked Silas the next day "Is Alden your friend?" and he replied "Alden...Friend!" It's now been several days since we saw Alden, but I showed him the first picture on this post today and with no prompting, he remembered Alden's name and again reiterated that Alden was his friend. Awe...

Yesterday was a long day of travel for us, but we made it back home in one piece. Silas did really well on all of the flights and napped a lot, thankfully. His schedule is still a bit off, though. Today, he was up by 4:30. I'm hoping to get him back to his regular routine by the end of the week.

Hanging out on Thanksgiving

Holidays are the perfect occasion for me to unabashedly dress up my child in hand knits. Looking quite spiffy on Thanksgiving morning, here's Silas, sporting the v-neck sweater I made for him before he was even born, and which FINALLY fits him.

Hanging with Sparky:
And Shannon:
And friends...Hey, what's so interesting over here?
Oh, it's just those silly sheep. Blu is eating some alfalfa of of Audrey's back (and getting a mouth full of wool for his efforts too), which everyone thought was pretty funny.
We had a pretty restful, low-key Thanksgiving, which is just the way we like it to be. Silas talked to all of his grandparents on the phone, and we made a lot of great food, which we ate next door at Patrick and Shannon's house. And as you can see, we got to spend a fair amount of time outside walking around the yard and neighborhood. It was a happy Thanksgiving for us!

Milo's Birthday

We took Silas to Milo's birthday bash this afternoon. A good time was had by all and the boys (3 of them all born within 3 weeks of each other) were so adorable together. Happy Birthday Milo!

At Shannon and Patrick's House

We went over to Patrick and Shannon's house for breakfast this morning. They were all set up and ready for Silas! Shannon tells me that the wooden implement Si is holding is a Scottish porridge spurtle. You learn something new every day. Silas really likes it.

Oh, and check out the new duds that Grandma G. sent us, along with some birthday gifts for him. Thanks Grandma! Doesn't he look like the bee's knees!

Welcome to the World, Liam!

Silas and his mom and dad got to meet baby Liam last weekend. Proud new parents Jessica and William showed us their little beauty. Wow! We are all excited to see our two boys grow together. Welcome to Planet Earth (and Planet Silas), little Liam!

9 months old! --baby on the move

Jill took these pictures yesterday at our fabulous Stitch 'n Bitchers' Holiday party. They show clearly that this baby is ready to crawl! He's up on all fours and is scooting back a lot. We're guessing that he might really crawl for the first time while we're in Wisconsin. We'll see.

Silas is on the move in another way too. We leave on the train in just 2 days! We can't wait! Make sure to check in to Planet Silas during the last few weeks of December as we will try to post while we are away.

Happy Holidays everyone!

First Snow

Snow is a rare treat here in the Puget Sound Region. Usually, we only get a tiny bit, perhaps a few times a winter, if that. Silas got to experience it for the first time yesterday afternoon. How beautiful it was, and Si had so much fun! We've posted a video as well (below). Like the other videos of Silas that we've posted, this one is an "old school" home movie as our little camera has no sound capabilities. So, do not attempt to adjust the volume on your computer when you play it. Just enjoy!
