New header

For those of you who read the blog through FaceBook and don't actually see the blog itself, this is the blog header I've used since last fall:

And here's my new one:

I love love love the old picture of my boy with his curly blond locks, but it was about time for an update.

Wish List

I've added a wish list to the side of the blog per the request of relatives. This is not meant to be solely a Christmas list. I will add and subtract from it over time and it currently contains items that we will use or need well into the future, along with some fun items. As I have mentioned before, probably too often, we don't really need or want a whole bunch of things. We have a small house and sometimes it seems toys are everywhere, even though we have a conservative amount of toys compared to many families. So, quality over quantity is our motto.

My big gift for Silas, which will probably be a joint Christmas and Birthday present (since it won't be finished by the 25th), is a knitted farmland. I got the idea from another crafty blogging momma. I'm making it piece by piece, and will be sure to update you on it's progress. There are a few farm related items on the wish list, but I'm still searching for the right farm, and may see what I can find locally.

I hope everyone is having a low-stress holiday season so far!

I gave Planet Silas a makeover today. --Hope you like it!

I think I'm done tinkering with it, at least for now :)

Let the countdown begin!

In just over a month, Silas will turn one year old! Woo-hoo! The new doodad I've added above will count down till the big day. The counter will reach 0:0:0:0 at 11:04 am on March 16th, the exact time of Si's birth. 30 days and counting!

Our Family Thanksgiving

Did you all have a wonderful thanksgiving? We had a great day and we hope you did too! Our little family visited with friends and neighbors, all of whom were charmed by Silas. Dad baked a sweet potato pie and a green bean casserole. Silas got to eat a bit of baked sweet potato (loved it) and boiled potato (not so much). Mom is enjoying getting to spend four days off in a row with her boys! Today we talked to our families back in Wisconsin. We will be seeing them all next month when we take a cross-country train ride to the Midwest for the Christmas holiday. Wow, Silas is already looking forward to it!

One more thing: All of our Silas-supported charities, toy registry and a book wish list are now posted on the sidebar on your left, right under the links to other blogs/web pages of interest.

If You're Handsome and You Know It, Eat a Spoon

Yes, another hand-knit item, made for Silas while he was still in the womb, and now, finally fitting him well. Silas proves that fluffy is "in" this season, and egg shell blue is the new black.

Coming back to the spoon: This rule applies not only to spoons, but also to toys, books (both ours and his), bottles, the guard rail on the bed, mom and dad's fingers, and anything else Silas manages to put in his mouth: Take said object away from Si's mouth when he is in the mood to chew on it, and all bleep breaks loose. The solution: Be ready with something else you don't mind him chewing on, and give it to him FAST. That usually works, though a period of calming down time will most likely proceed his reattachment to a new object. Ah, such are the travails of a teething tot.

One more thing: I made the decision to move the Guestbook to the bottom of the blog. It was taking too long to load the page (patience, patience, I know!) and many of you reported to me that you couldn't figure out how to sign it. Regardless, if you'd still like to sign it, please do so!

A message from Silas:

Greetings loyal Planet Silas readers. As you can see, my blog has a new feature, a guestbook. Please sign it at your earliest convenience. It would be nice if you included a picture or video. I can't wait to see who signs it!

Thanks and much love,
