Aloha, farm boy

He looks like he should be at the beach catching some waves, but apparently, we have Silas hauling firewood on the farm instead.
No, seriously folks...Barb (from mom's work) got this outfit for Silas when she was in Hawaii last winter. It is so adorable! Surely, we'll never encounter another baby with the same digs. Or so we thought...
This morning, when I checked Alden's blog, there he was wearing the same shirt! What are the odds! I knew they had a lot in common, but I didn't know that included fashion sense :)

Smile, the flu loves you!

It's been a rough week. Dad is on day 7 and Silas is on day 3 of a respiratory flu bug, or what we unaffectionately call, the plague. I am currently plague-free, but missed some work (and sleep) in order to take care of my boys. Let's hope they get better soon, and I avoid it all together!

But our week is nothing compared to the one our friends Jessi, Dave and Alden have had. They've had a trying time with Doctors and tests for Alden, who was born prematurely. He may or may not need surgery in the coming weeks, so please hope for the best for them (no surgery, healthy baby, no surgery, healthy baby, say it with me!). If you are able to do so, please consider sponsoring Alden's Team in the March of Dimes March for Babies. I'll put a link on the sidebar as well.

WI train trip windup

I think this may finally be the last post about our trip to WI last month. Our train left over an hour late, so the first 3 pictures show Grandma and Papa hanging out at the station, entertaining Silas, who was delighted to spend the extra time with them. Next up, the long awaited picture of Alden and Silas, together at last, in case you didn't head over to Alden's Story for the pictures that Jessi posted there. What a cutie that Alden is! Finally, for all of you non-Wisconsinites, here's a typical winter scene, taken from Grandma and Papa's front porch. We were very excited to have a good snowfall while we were visiting.

That about covers our trip--family, friends, and snow. We miss everyone in Wisconsin and hope to see you all soon! Come out and see us if you can. We're already looking forward to Grandma and Papa's next trip to Washington, which is scheduled for the beginning of May. Silas will be so happy to see them!

Choo-Choo: trip to WI

With all of the visiting we've been doing since arriving in WI, we are a bit behind on blog posting. We will have to catch up later this week. First thing's first, though: Here are some pictures taken from the train. Only the last blurry one will kind of give you a rough idea of what our sleeper room looked like. I'll post some of the pictures Drew took of the views from the train another day. For now, a few brief things about our trip east:

We had our own room complete with an upper and lower bunk (converted from a large couch during the day) and our very own bathroom, with a toilet/shower all-in-on (no joke). This was totally living it up compared to coach seating, let me tell you! The dining car, and it's sub-par offerings, was just the next car down from ours. We met some intersting people (curlers, musicans, race car people) while eating. Other than eating and a brief trip to the observation deck, we stuck to our room, entertaining Silas and watching the countryside. Silas enjoyed looking out the window, but also spent much of the time admiring himself in the big mirror across from our couch. He did very well on his first train trip (slept better than his parents). We'll see how he manages his return trip, as a seasoned traveler!

Silas has seen a bunch of his relatives since arriving in WI and yesterday got to meet his friend Alden for the very first time! Alden and Silas share a birth-week! Wow, it was so much fun to see them together, and so wonderful for the parents to all catch up on life, parenthood, etc. I'll try to post a picture of them together later this week, but if you don't want to wait that long to see them together, check out Alden's story (a link is on the side) and look at the posting for 12/23. So cute!
